Question by Andrew: why did my friend tell me i had a proxy server on my laptop to send information to new york?
everytime i got on it? seems bad. is this possible? i thought a proxy server was just another way to get on the internet without using my IP. how can it send information?

When you use a proxy server (for example, with your web browser) it funnels everything you do through a single server, then out to the web. Everything you request (download) gets funneled to that server before it gets to your computer. It hides your IP address, because every request you make looks like it is coming from that proxy server, as opposed to looking like it is coming from you.
It is bad, because again… EVERYTHING you do is pushed through that proxy. If you didn’t set the proxy, then it was set by spyware or malware… and it would ONLY be done to monitor what you do. You know.. to steal passwords, bank account information, credit card information, etc.
If you wanted to get on to Facebook at school, and you could only do so through a Proxy… how do you know you can trust the proxy server you look up on the internet to use for that? Because a friend recommends it? How do they know they can trust it?
Get your machine cleaned, and don’t use proxy servers.
