Question by : is it dangerous to turn off the proxy for internet explorer?

I’m not even sure if I’m using ‘proxy’ in its proper terms. However, my internet explorer wasn’t working even though my internet connection was working. I turned off the proxy and now its working fine. After doing a little investigating I’m still not sure what a proxy is and if it’s a bad thing to turn off.

Seems to be safer without it.

  2. Jim R says:

Proxy’s route your traffic through a specific proxy server. This allows whoever controls the proxy to filter/restrict traffic as needed. It also allows the caching of websites/pages to lessen load on the network.

+90% of internet users don’t have proxy turned on, so you don’t need it
