Can a person hack other computers if their broadband is connected through a proxy?

Question by iamlizzy84: Can a person hack other computers if their broadband is connected through a proxy?

I believe someone I know is gaining access to my computer without my consent. However I am aware that this person’s broadband connection is behind a proxy.Could this person still hack from that connection?

    Yes. Most definitely. That’s one of the dangers of using proxies. When you connect through a proxy, you are basically accepting that proxy’s output to you. If they mingle some malicious piece of code in their normal output, your browser would accept that too. Of course, if you have taken security measures like disabling active content, your exposure will be lessened.

    Yes, hackers always find ways round things but a good firewall (configured properly) will reduce your chances of being hacked

    It is possible, but unlikely. A proxy redirects traffic that is passed through it. A router of which there are multitudes that make up the backbone of the internet actually routes all the traffic hence the name.

    Now if your computer is plugged directly into your broadband modem then you are asking for trouble.

    Get yourself a security suite with a firewall and antivirus
